Transmission Checklist 

  • Scan original vehicle codes and keep them before removing transmission.
  • Compare replacement transmission and torque converter to original before installation.
  • Transmission cooler and lines must be flushed or replaced.
  • Inspect flex plate closely and check for cracks or any damage.
  • Inspect all engine and transmission mounts for wear and damage.
  • Be sure both dowel pins are clean, installed properly, and are in good condition.
  • Do not remove the converter to add trans fluid two the converter.
  • Do not remove the converter bracket into you are ready two boating the trans to the engine
  • After installing the transmission, and five quarts of trans fluid, then start the engine up.
  • Then add five more quarts and then put the vehicle in reverse and drive and then back into park.
  • The transmission and the trans cooler take from 12 to 15 quarts of fluid.
  • Let the vehicle run for about 10 minutes, so you can check for the correct fluid level.
  • The type of fluid 4L60E Chevy/GMC trans calls for is dexron 3 and the late model take dexron VI
  • The type of fluid 4R75W Ford trans calls for is Mercon LV
  • Road test the vehicle for 5 miles to make sure the vehicle is working correctly.
  • Check the fluid level one final time.
  • If you feel the vehicle is not working correctly stop driving the vehicle immediately.
